Wausau, Wisconsin: Artwork from 114 artists from throughout the world will be included in the 43rd annual Birds in Artexhibition, on view Saturday, September 8 through Sunday, November 25, at the Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum. In 2018, 575 artists submitted 904 artworks for consideration by the three-person jury.
Birds in Art, which presents original paintings, sculptures, and graphics created within the last three years by worldwide artists, once again celebrates avian marvels through fresh artistic interpretations.
A 134-page full-color, illustrated Birds in Art catalogue featuring every work along with artists’ statements will be available for purchase in September.
The Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum’s grounds feature sculptures that delight visitors of all ages. From Deborah Butterfield’s Kua to Burt Brent’s The Heavyweight, a range of artistic styles can be found. Another highlight is Kent Ullberg’s striking bronze whooping cranes that stand as iconic sentinels at the garden’s entrance.
See the Museum’s newest, nearly thirty-foot-tall, site-specific sculpture, The Dance, of a sandhill-crane pair created June 21-25, 2016, from saplings by Boston artists Donna Dodson and Andy Moerlein, known as The Myth Makers.
